| Formed in 1967, the band . . . . |
The Houghton Le Spring Pipe Band was formed in 1967 by a group of people in the Sunderland area.
Over the years the band has gone from strength to strength. With a full complement the band can parade nearly thirty players. Our members are from near and far including Killingworth in the North of England to the Leeds area where our members travel to Houghton Le Spring for practices and other engagements.
We also attract members from the local universities who join us during their studies.
Not only are we a display band we also enjoy competition and over the years have been very successful in winning Major Championships not only in England but North of the Border as well. We have travelled to Belgium to take part in competition and socializing as well, over the last three years.
Our members enjoy taking part in events similar to today and we are always willing to travel to facilitate our passion. Please contact the band if you have an event that you would like to us the band at. We can supply from one to a full band. We also are a teaching band and we have developed our own system of teaching that dovetails into The Royal Scottish Pipe band Association’s Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board education system that links to the Scottish Qualifications Authority certification system. So if you want to learn we are the people to help you on your way.

Practice facilities. . . .
|
The band practice at two venues, both in the Houghton Le Spring area. 1st Wednesday of the Month we are in the Houghton Buffs Club and the rest of the month we are in the Dubmire RBL Club Fencehouses Official practice time is 7.00pm until 9.30pm but most of the pipers are there from 6pm to give their pipes a blow and sort out any maintenance problems.
We also have a ‘learning’ practice in the Dubmire RBL club on a Sunday morning from 10.15am to which everyone is welcome.
The best way to make sure you get to the correct practice is check the calendar or speak to the secretary, who should know. |
